About Our Church

Welcome to Lutheran Chapel Church

Community and Faith

From a humble log “chapel” on North New Hope in 1828, Lutheran Chapel Evangelical Church, one of the oldest Lutheran congregations in the Gastonia, has grown in enthusiasm, membership, and the spirit of our risen Lord into a devout and energetic congregation of Lutherans with a vibrant history of growth and outreach.

Richly blessed throughout the history of our church with a burgeoning and nurturing membership, Lutheran Chapel Church progressed from the modest log chapel, replaced by a brick structure in 1872. Our present sanctuary was constructed in 1923, with an educational complex added in 1957. Our generous and faithful believers have also supported extensive renovations of the current structures and purchased a fabulous new pipe organ. Constantly concerned with outreach into our community and the spiritual health of our families, the church added a multipurpose family life center in 2000, supporting community group meetings, Mothers’ Morning Out/Preschool, athletic activities, and religious celebrations.

Lutheran Chapel members have a history of concern and compassion for the needy of our community, participating or orchestrating projects to help the homeless, addicted, disadvantaged, or displaced members of Gastonia families. Our rich heritage of benevolence in our community and our history of steady growth reflect our steadfast commitment and witness to the belief that we are all saved by the Grace of our Resurrected Lord.
